correct and partially wrong. it looks like the nra's proposal is a lot like exactly what happened after 9/11. immediately though grabbed any federal agent they could to throw them on the planes and later on they put together a really poorly implemented program to arm pilots. and not very many volunteered for the program. i can see the reality. look. he is right in some regard. if someone shows up at a school and there is an armed principal and armed guard clearly that is not going to happen it's unseasonable for starters. it is impractical. let alone the safety implications that come out of all of this. did it work in the skies though? >> well, could argue that it is working because there hasn't been an incident but it looks like every time an american aircraft that gets hijacked there hasn't been any air marshals or both planes that have in iad's on board most of them didn't have armed marshals on them and i don't think there were any armed pilots on them either. so, the air marshall program alone is a billion-dollar program. and the armed pilots program is a lot of the pilots believe it

-abiding citizen, if you pass a background check, if you take a safety course, and in fairness to the nra, they're big on that. if you take a safety course, if you meet all those requirements, you ought to have a gun in your home for protection. perhaps under certain circumstances, you ought to be able to carry a gun, all those things are fine, but there's a whole range of stuff that falls outside that definition that puts us in far more peril than it is likely to protect our safety. consider the circumstance of aurora. since nobody knew for sure that a guy dressed like the joker was going to come in and start spraying bullets everywhere, in order for those in the theater to be armed and ready to respond, if follows they have to be armed at all times. that means you have a bunch of people walking around in the supermarket, at the starbucks, walking their dog, taking their kid to the park, all armed. over the course of a year, how off do you think that would lead to tragedy and how often do you think it would lead to safety? that's my question. >> pure accident, the three stories i read. preside

that will strike fear in the hearts of folks at the nra because they, when he was senator biden, gave him an "f" on his pro-gun rights policies and said in 2008, few in the senate have as much experience as biden in attacking our right to keep and bear arms. they will not like the choice. but it does appear they are now going to take a serious look at, what, another assault weapons ban? what do you think is likely to come out of this? >> what was interesting in the president's press conference he was actually fairly specific what he hopes to get out of this task force. he says, it was clear it wasn't a commission. i think people who are speculating the president is using this biden task force to sort of get out of having to do implement serious gun control measures or doing kinds of things the president suggested he would do in his speech in newtown on sunday night are just wrong. i think the president is still eager to move urgently and i think the picking of vice president biden suggests that but he was fairly specific. he talked about reinstating an assault weapons ban. the president talked
